At Golden Hour Wellness, we offer Spravato Naperville & Hinsdale treatment for patients seeking FDA-approved esketamine care.
If you’ve been struggling with depression that hasn’t responded well to traditional medications, you may have started hearing about Spravato. It can feel exciting and overwhelming at the same time: Is it safe? How does it work? What actually happens during a visit?
At Golden Hour Wellness, we provide Spravato (esketamine) treatment in our Naperville and Hinsdale clinics. Many patients looking for Spravato Naperville or Hinsdale options choose our clinic because of our extended 9am–9pm hours and insurance coverage. This post walks you through what Spravato is, who it may help, and what you can expect when you receive treatment with us.
What is Spravato?

Spravato is an FDA-approved prescription nasal spray that contains esketamine, a form of ketamine. It is approved for:
- Adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD), and
- Adults with major depressive disorder who have suicidal thoughts or behaviors
Spravato is not a first-line antidepressant and it is not a take-home medication. It must be given in a certified clinic under medical supervision as part of a REMS (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy) program. Golden Hour Wellness is built to provide that monitored, supportive environment.
Where is Spravato Offered?
We currently offer Spravato at both of our locations:
- Naperville, IL
- Hinsdale, IL
Both clinics are open daily from 9 am to 9 pm, including evenings and weekends, to make treatment accessible for working professionals, parents, and anyone juggling a busy schedule.
Insurance Coverage for Spravato
Because Spravato can be expensive without coverage, we work hard to make it as accessible as possible. At this time, we are in-network with:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS)
- Aetna
- UnitedHealthcare (UHC)
- Cigna
We are also working on Medicare options and do accept some Medicare Advantage plans through the carriers above. Our team will verify benefits and help you understand your out-of-pocket costs before you begin treatment.
Your First Step: Evaluation With Our Psychiatric Provider
Before starting Spravato, you’ll meet with our psychiatric provider for a comprehensive evaluation. During this visit, you can expect:
- A detailed review of your mental health history and medications
- Discussion of previous treatments you’ve tried and how you responded
- Screening for medical conditions that may impact safety
- Time to ask questions and decide whether Spravato feels like the right next step for you
If Spravato is appropriate, we’ll work with you, your existing therapist or prescriber (if applicable), and your insurance company to create a treatment plan.
What is the Typical Spravato Treatment Schedule?
Everyone is unique, but a common Spravato protocol looks like this:
- Weeks 1–4: Two treatments per week
- Weeks 5–9: One treatment per week
- After Week 9: Weekly or every other week, depending on response and your provider’s recommendation
Appointments are scheduled in advance so you can plan work, childcare, and transportation around them. Because Spravato can cause temporary changes in alertness, you will need a safe ride home after each visit.
What Happens During a Spravato Visit?
Each Spravato session typically lasts about two hours or more in the clinic. Here’s how a visit usually flows at Golden Hour Wellness:
- Check-In and Vitals
You’ll check in, complete any quick questionnaires, and we’ll take vital signs such as blood pressure and heart rate. - Preparation and Questions
Your nurse or provider will review how you’re feeling, answer questions, and make sure you’re comfortable. - Spravato Administration
You’ll self-administer the nasal spray under the guidance of our medical staff. We’ll walk you through each step. - Monitored Relaxation Period
You’ll remain in a quiet, comfortable room while the medication takes effect. Many patients choose to rest with an eye mask, calming music, or light blankets. An NP, PA, or physician will monitor you throughout the session. - Recovery and Re-Check
Before you leave, we’ll re-check your vitals, review how the session felt, and talk about any side effects. You’ll need a support person or transportation arranged, as you should not drive until the next day.
How Spravato Fits With Therapy and Other Supports
At Golden Hour Wellness, we believe medication is only one piece of mental health care. Spravato often works best when combined with:
- Ongoing psychotherapy
- Support groups or coaching
- Lifestyle changes such as sleep, nutrition, and movement
- Integration sessions to process insights and emotions that may come up
Spravato vs. IV Ketamine: What’s the Difference?
Patients often ask how Spravato compares to IV ketamine infusions:
- Spravato is an FDA-approved, insurance-billable esketamine nasal spray given on a structured schedule.
- IV ketamine is an off-label use of ketamine delivered through an IV, often as a series of six infusions followed by maintenance “boosters.”
Golden Hour Wellness offers both options and can help you decide which approach may be better for your situation, goals, and insurance coverage.
Is Spravato Right for You?
Spravato may be an option if:
- You have tried multiple antidepressants without enough relief
- You’re working with a therapist or prescriber but still struggling with severe depressive symptoms
- You and your provider are exploring advanced treatments for treatment-resistant depression
It is not appropriate for everyone, especially those with certain medical conditions or substance use patterns. That is why a thorough evaluation and ongoing monitoring are so important.
